Tim Ryan attended Stewart from age three and went through grade six. He remembers most sitting in the big circle in the gym. His favorite subjects were Geography and Science. Tim played basketball as a fifth grader. Tim’s sister Chrissy, we also attended ABC-Stewart is now attending law school in Chicago.

Two of his good friends were Josh Berman and Chris Chambers, who he is still in touch with. Tim’s favorite learning materials were maps and he also liked writing poetry. Tim was an excellent singer. In sixth grade, he sung the solo of “Danny Boy.” He also sung in high school at North and still sings a bit today. The foreign language he took was Spanish, which he took during first, second and third grade. He took German during fourth, fifth, and sixth grade.

Tim Ryan attended Northside Junior High. He went to North High School and studied in Germany his junior year. In High School he was in the German club, he swam on the swim team, he was in theatre. He received a Varsity letter for swimming. He was always on the Honor Roll. Tim graduated from Georgetown University in 1995. He majored in German, again spending a year in Germany during college.

After graduation, he went to Bulgaria to teach English. He really enjoyed college. Tim’s mother, Phyllis Ryan, taught reading in the pre-school for several years. His father, Mike Ryan, served on the Executive Committee and was school treasurer. Mrs. Carmichael remembers Tim as a strong student who was always kind to everyone, optimistic about life and a gifted singer. Today, Tim teaches first and second year German at the University of Texas in Austin. He is also completing work on his Ph.D. in German Linguistics.

His advice to young people today is, “Study hard and find something you like to do.”
