Ricky Altmiller enjoyed the close bonding of all students, the freedom to learn in his way, and the amazing experiences, field trips, and events at Stewart school. He attended ABC, which gave him a great start to his education. He remembers learning through music and hands on activities. His favorite subject was math while he thought English was the most challenging.
He has memories his of trips to Washington D.C, Space Camp, the Thanksgiving feast, and musicals and skits. He remembers Mr. Powell, Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Carmichael, Mr. Maulin, Mr. Carmichael, Mrs. Rudd, Mrs. Olson, Miss Pat, Ms. Gad, Mrs. Olibo, and many other teachers. While at Stewart, Ricky was a cheerleader for two years, basketball player for two years, involved in scouts, Math Bowl, and chess team.
He thinks that all his homework at Stewart prepared him tremendously in the fact that it challenged him for excellence. He still remembers things he was taught while attending Stewart. He remembers Washington D.C, Space Camp, Bradford woods, the Zoo, paging in the state capitol, and all day trips to various places.
He thinks Stewart helped with time management and producing high school quality of work. He developed a great sense of personal confidence along with a caring heart.
He thinks his graduation speech was a great milestone for his multiple experiences of public speaking. Ricky recalls that everything went smoothly, and it was funny to be the smallest person in his class to graduate giving a speech to hundreds of people. It was a little intimidating.
When he graduated from Stewart, he felt very excited and at the same time nervous for what was ahead. At Columbus East high school he has been a varsity wrestler and varsity tennis player. He recently competed in the International Convention Developmental Conference with DECA. He was selected to Who’s Who of high school students.
For his Eagle Scout Project, he built ramp for people who were homebound. He has helped in Haiti and worked with Native Americans and disabled adults in Rapid City, South Dakota.
He has traveled to Haiti, Hawaii, San Diego, Dallas, and his cabin in Michigan.
He will attend Johnson Bible College. The reason is he felt that God was leading him to Johnson. Ricky has received some scholarships including a Johnson Presidential Scholarship. He plans on receiving a double major in the Bible and in preaching.
His advice for Stewart school is “Don’t give life an opportunity to achieve regrets. Accomplish all that you can and do all that you can do.”
