Aaron Gold
Aaron’s greatest accomplishment has been setting the Columbus East Men’s Soccer team school record for most goals scored in a season and most points earned in a season.
Aaron Gold, who is now a senior at Columbus East High School, is a graduate of ABC-Stewart School and the big brother of Stewart third grader Andrew Gold. I asked Aaron about his years at Stewart and what he has accomplished since he graduated from Stewart.
Aaron has received around 30 awards in soccer including a tie for best player in his district with Nate Downing, all conference and all district and all academic. He volunteers at the Foundation for Youth and for the Dance Marathon.
Homework at Stewart was worth the effort for Aaron because he taught his math class in eighth grade. He said Mrs. Carmichael had already taught him how to do that math. His favorite subject at Stewart was math because he liked to race his friends on timed tests. He didn’t like English because of Wordly Wise.
Aaron enjoyed playing sports and capture the flag. The field trips at Stewart helped him experience many new things.
He attended Children’s Garden when he moved here from Belgium. He remembers his friends, Alex Maddux and Kyle Shedd from pre-school. Kyle is still his best friend.
Aaron’s best memories from Stewart are basketball games, especially playing Hope in 5th grade when he was fouled and made the free throw shot for the tie which sent the game into overtime. The Stewart Suns eventually won the game in double overtime. He set the scoring record for basketball at Stewart.
Aaron also played soccer and did math bowl. He remembers Mr. Carmichael and Mr. Maulin from his years at Stewart. Aaron continued to play sports in middle school and high school.
He remembers many field trips but his favorite was to Bradford Woods. His favorite time of year at Stewart was Halloween because he liked dressing up.
I told Aaron I was about to graduate from Stewart and asked him what he remembered about graduation. He said he remembers writing his speech in the art room and going over it a million times with Mrs. Carmichael, but it all turned out well. He was sad to leave the basketball team, but happy to move on.
Aaron has traveled to Cape Cod, Michigan, Costa Rica, Mexico, Virginia, Washington, DC, Florida and many other places. He vacations and plays soccer during the summer.
Aaron is excited about graduating from East and starting college at the University of Indianapolis. He is going to college there because they have a good business school and they recruited him to play soccer. He has some scholarships but he will have to work hard to keep them. He plans to major in business.
His advice for Stewart students today is “Go big and don’t be afraid to fail.” He also said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
